Programme Highlights:Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel forms the middle section of Route 6, connecting the Central Kowloon Route to the west and the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel to the east. Upon commissioning of the entire Route 6, the journey time during peak hours between Tseung Kwan O Town Centre and Yau Ma Tei will be substantially reduced from about 65 minutes now to 12 minutes.The Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel is 3.4 kilometres (km) long, of which its main component is a 2.4 km twin-tube sub-sea tunnel routed underneath the seabed of the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter which will be constructed by Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). Each TBM is 14 metres (m) in height, which is approximately the height of three double deck buses together; and 120 m in length, which is approximately the length of six carts of train. The two TBMs are equipped with a number of state-of-the-art innovative technologies to cope with various engineering challenges during the construction of the sub-sea tunnel.To get more information about the project and the TBMs, you may visit the Civil Engineering and Development Department YouTube video in the link below.
