A technical seminar was  jointly organized by ICES Hong Kong, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICES HKA G&S), the Hong Kong Institution of Engineering Surveyors (HKIES) and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE AMC) at the Exhibition Hall of Hong Kong Productivity Council on 28 February 2009. Five speakers shared their experience on the challenges of the integration through  GIS & BIM enhance infrastructure solution project. The seminar was attracted over 100 attendees to attend the interesting topic.

These topics are covered on BIM, GIS and Point Cloud data solution.  Ir Francis  Leung, Director Head of BIM of WSP and David Fung, BIM Division Head & Senior Associate of Aedas  who are experienced with large-scale development project in Asia.  During the presentation, Ir Francis Leung and David Fung began with the introduction of the design and construction benefits for the building project in editing in any structure panel. It is not only shown  in 3D animation but also in  section view & elevation view  including the material & quantities change. 

Eric Yau  GIS Manager of AECOM  began on second topic of Spatial Information Hub as an effective tool to facilitate information flow during landslide investigation. Despite gradually more adoption and increase in the use of geographical information system (GIS) technologies in design, the advancement in technologies do not necessarily result in increased geospatial data accessibility. Furthermore, due to complexity of geographic data, the systematic and scientific use of it generally lacks behind other kinds of data. This platform was successful implementation in Hong Kong where geospatial information sharing and access is greatly improved through a web-based GIS common geospatial information platform.

Third topic by Bruce Pang, CS of China State Construction Engineering (HK) Ltd presented in Design Visualization – Explore, validate and Communicate. Visualization specialists have long used design visualization to create beautiful, full-blown presentations at the end of the design process. He shown his Anderson Road Project  how to design visualization to enrich the visual context of their designs at every stage of development, from began stage and  final presentation in visualization.
